A new beginning in art. At the end of 2025, I had a book made, sort of as a way to end one chapter and begin a new one, and with that, the exploration of painting and color. Inspired by my trip to Germany and Austria in 2025 and the opportunity that presented itself, I felt this was the next logical step in my artistic progression. For too long, I have been relying on black-and-white concepts to tell a story, and for too long, I have been creating artwork that is finished and complete. I made the promise to myself that if I can pull off the upcoming piece with high, positive results, I will devote my time and talents to the world of the arts.
This next step, phase, isn’t just a new chapter but a new book altogether. With this being a new book comes with it new insights and growth. I haven’t just set out to create hyper realism or simply reproduce what is before me, but to do something that most artists don’t do: to allow moments to live and be returned. What I mean by my new and profound sense of art is that I am thankful and fortunate to have been part of the moment. I am not trying to control or own the narrative, but to allow not just live and be returned, but to breathe and become naturally, without projection, without expectations.
Of course I will be doing random one off drawings, and as a new approach to live my art won’t just be limited to just drawing, and painting but other arts as well. In the closing days of 2025 I bought a panio and intend to learn some difficult piece as part making a new and incredible life.
I decided to start making post cards and actually taking the time to write. In a time of instant communication and social media we have never been closer and yet more distant then we ever imagined. This is a way of bridging that gap and making a real effort at genuine and real connections.
A post card collection. My post cards not only depict a piece of artwork but also depict a message. A message that I attempt to keep contentious and its own reality so that each play off of one another to tell a bigger story. At least that’s the goal.
Just another random simple post card made for a special friend.
The next big piece of artwork.
When I think of this new piece of artwork and being present not just with life but with art itself, I think of Chopin's Ballade No 1. Op. 23. Even if this piece is played perfectly note for note, the artist can still get the entire piece wrong. This ballad is one that can not be rushed without betraying it. This is a piece where we feel the space in between notes, where feelings arrive, and we accept vulnerability. We allow silence to speak and open ourselves to what the music asks. This is why the piece exposes so many people.
Like a compiled ballad, we must feel ourselves in the spaces of the drawing, the painting, to understand that the pauses matter in the space between the canvas and the subject, and that the time spent between layers matters. Patience is a form of presence pressed in, allowing the piece to speak; the unresolved tension allows us to grow as artists and for the piece to evolve naturally.
Neither a musical piece nor a work of art is meant to be rushed or linger. To rush is to survive the piece and to line the piece services you. In both cases, the piece is not about sentimentality or drama; it's about time carrying meaning, allowing breath to finish thought, and emotion to emerge without being forced.
What the ballade teaches us is that you can arrive quickly and never arrive, and you can name something before it has time to become real. In a drawing or painting, we can rush the idea before the piece has time to become what it was intended to become naturally. If we create and play honestly, both will ask, what am I avoiding, what am I afraid to stay with, and " Do I rush because truth hurts.
Art and performance aren’t about playing notes correctly or crafting the perfect brush strokes; it’s about giving human feeling enough time to tell the truth.
I began my junery in water color and painting with a quick study into how colors work and a brief introduction to color theory
I decided to do a mini drawing to see how things would work and play out rather then just doing abstracts.
This was extremely beneficial especially when learning about layering and intensity of hues.
I keep using my reference piece to try out new and different things.
For a very basic piece I think this actually turned out pretty amazing.
The next stage was learning how color worked on my own paper that I intended to paint my bigger picture on.
All in all I put together three reference pieces to see what is and what is possible out the gate.
Can’t keep procrastinating, time to take the big leap.
Life begins with a new chapter a new book of new ideas and new ways of thinking and seeing.
This is an incredible but slow start to capturing the world, but life threw me some curve balls that challenged and shook my grounding and made me question where I was going with this whole idea with art. However, the reality and truth is that I have been humbly changed and aligned with a wonderful sense of being. Even though it might be a slow start to seeing life in a new way but a great start none the less.
There is something to be said about a lot of different brands of paint that is used including the type of paper. Art is a learning processes.
As long as I keep working on it I didn’t feel I was getting anywhere until I started working on it I still didn’t feel like I wasn’t getting anywhere.
Then I started adding color and it made all the difference.
I am very happy with with the way it has turned out so far. all things considered I am so glad that I mounted the paper to to board.
The constant efforts of honing a skill and a practice is never done. I do love however how the shoes turned out.
Still strugging with faces and painting I decided to do a whole study and see where it takes me.
